Cut & Ready to Print (5-color Reduction Block)

My original photo from the North End pushcarts and the 12 x 12" block cut and waiting for access to a press and some ink

Shellac Test/Composite Beginings

Shellac, cut, soon to shellac again, and print.
The shellac is supposed to give a crisper line and make inking and clean-up easier.
8 x 10" test for larger composite image (16 x 20") print.
I plan to print this onto another block
in order to create the mirror image.
(I could use 4 separate blocks to display at the end, but... I'll see how this goes first.)

Another Stripe Block

I seem to keep making stripe patterns, possibly until I find one that I like - it's becoming quite compulsive.

This woodcut is (so far) the closest I have come.

The rectangle format is a welcomed change from the squares. This rectangle is a very manageable 12 x 16".

Square Size Comparison

Temporarily switching from the 19 3/4" square to 5 1/2" square.

I may experiment with composition and design more in this size... perhaps to return to the larger size or just continue on with these.

Starting to Carve the Stripes

Using gouges to carve out the striped cloth image.

This time, I am trying to leave more contour lines
in-between what will be solid black stripes.

I'm hoping this will make for an interesting clay
slab or paper embossing or ...

Past Bike Woodcut Experiments

Looking at Wadsworth's images reminded me of my work last summer.

I started these woodcuts with digital photos of bike shadows on stairs.
This was when my original idea to display just the wood, not the print began.
Now... to stripe or to bike???

This larger block also shows
much of the actual bikes
(lower left).
